Unit
MISSION STATEMENT
The Harris County Sheriff's Office Commercial Vehicle Enforcement
Unit is responsible for enforcing State and Federal laws pertaining
to Commercial Motor Vehicles operating within Harris County.
GOAL
The
goal of this unit is the elimination of motor vehicle accidents
involving commercial motor vehicles through enforcement, education
and cooperative efforts with the area Motor Carriers. The
unit conducts roadside inspections and weight enforcement.
The unit conducts safety seminars for local motor carriers.
The unit is responsible for conducting "Post Crash"
inspections of commercial motor vehicles to determine pre-crash
conditions that may have been a contributing factor to the
accident.
The unit's motto is "FIRM but FAIR".

All
officers and supervisors assigned to the Commercial Motor
Vehicle Enforcement Unit are dedicated to creating a safe
environment for the motoring public within Harris County.
The officers assigned to the unit have been certified by The
United States Department of Transportation, Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration, through the Texas Department
of Public Safety, in North American Roadside Inspection, Hazardous
Material Inspection and Cargo Tank Inspection. They have been
certified through the State of Texas in License and Weight
Enforcement. The unit also has officers certified through
the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Motor
Carrier Safety Administration in Commercial Vehicle Crash
Inspections.
The unit is actively involved in the Commercial Vehicle Safety
Alliance. The CVSA is an international alliance of personnel
from all facets of the trucking industry including truck and
component manufacturers, motor carriers and enforcement personnel
from nearly every level of government. The main purpose of
the CVSA is to promote commercial vehicle safety through education
and uniform application of commercial vehicle safety regulations
and inspection procedures.
