Lateral
Entry from Other Agencies
to Harris County Sheriff's Office (Patrol Position)
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications from
sworn peace officers for lateral entry to Patrol Bureau positions. The
applicant must have at least thirty-six
months of
continuous, full-time paid law
enforcement experience from one municipal, county, state or
federal agency. Twenty-four of these months must be in a traditional first
responder position.
Applicants will be subject to all phases of
the hiring process and hiring criteria. Successful
applicants will be required to attend an abbreviated academy of approximately
6-7 weeks and complete the probationary patrol deputy training. For pay
purposes, after successful completion of the six months probation, applicants
may be credited with up to fourteen years of prior service. For full details,
