CHILD ABUSE UNIT

MISSION STATEMENT

TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY; PROTECT THE INNOCENT; AND PROSECUTE THE OFFENDER.

The Child Abuse Unit is an investigative unit within the Interpersonal Violence Division of the Harris County Sheriff's Office. The Child Abuse Division investigates physical abuse cases, family related sexual assault cases, and sexual assault cases involving children 15 years of age and younger.

The Child Abuse Unit is responsible for investigating the following types of cases:

• Internet Child Pornography
• Medical Neglect
• Sexual Assault
• Physcical Abuse
• Child Endangerment
• Indecency with a Child
• Abandoning or Neglecting a Child
• Injury to a Child
• Sexual Performance of a Child
• Criminal Solicitation of a Minor

Cases referred to the Child Abuse Unit are assigned to a Detective / Investigator who will contact the complainant to schedule any appointments or interviews necessary to conduct the criminal investigation.
