The
patrol bureau is responsible for the protection of lives
and property in all of unincorporated Harris County. The
patrol bureau has grown rapidly under the administration
of Sheriff Thomas. A change in philosophy, away from random,
reactive patrols, toward vigorously proactive and cutting-edge
community based law enforcement techniques has been accompanied
by the aquisition of greater resources with which to combat
crime. The bureau has more than doubled the number of deputies
on the streets since 1995. Patrol operations place greater
emphasis than ever before on saturation (Zero Tolerance)
operations, uniformed interdiction teams, K-9 units, and
other enforcement specialties.
