Courts Division
MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Courts Division
to provide the citizens of Harris County, the Great State
of Texas, and this nation a safe and unbiased place to find
justice.
GOAL
As observed on the Harris County Sheriff's Department shoulder
patch, the Courts Division's goal is to maintain the standards
that Lady Justice has set for us and what every citizen expects
in their justice system.
VISION
The
American Judicial System and our legal processes are often
misunderstood by citizens. This website is designed to answer
some of your questions about Harris County's justice system,
one of our three branches of government, and to familiarize
you with its operation.
Government should be a servant of the people. It is vitally
important that everyone understands how it works. The judicial
branch of state government guards our constitutional rights
as citizens of Harris County and the United States of America.
Only through knowledge and awareness of our justice system
can we support and defend its principles and learn to use
it properly.
It is our vision to achieve all of our goals in a manner
which is reflective of the high standards of the Harris County
Sheriff's Office. We will make every effort to meet these
goals with the greatest level of safety, security and professionalism,
as is expected by the community which we serve.
The Harris County Sheriff's Department, Courts Division is
charged with the responsibility of providing security and
order in the District and County courts of this county. 170
professional certified Sheriff's Department Deputies accomplish
this task. These deputies staff the 60 District Courts and
the 26 County Courts plus your Jury Room. These deputies move
between 500 and 800 prisoners to and from these courts every
day. These same deputies are the ones who escort you from
the Jury Assembly Room to court when you serve as a juror.
These deputies are supervised by the Courts Division Command
Staff, which is comprised of a Captain, a Lieutenant, and
3 Sergeants. The Courts Division Command Staff is located
in the basement of the Criminal Justice Center and can be
reached at 713-755-6026.
