DWI Arrest in the Tomball Area

On November 24, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies T. Lathan and J. Horn were traveling in the 25000 block of FM. 2920 when they observed a vehicle directly ahead of them traveling at an excessive speed and veering into on coming traffic. The deputies activated the emergency lights of the patrol car and initiated a traffic stop. The driver later identified as 24-year-old Jose Nunez, was observed to have slurred speech, poor balance and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. Jose Nunez was arrested for DWI (1st Offence) and later pled guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 45 days confinement in the Harris County Jail.

Also on November 24, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy S. Orlando was patrolling Northwest Harris County when he observed a vehicle swerving on the roadway. Deputy Orlando initiated a traffic stop in the 13907 block of Alice Road. When he made contact with the driver he could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Onan Castillo of Houston, exhibited additional signs of intoxication as well. Castillo was arrested and charged with DWI (1st Offence). He later pled guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 10 days confinement in the Harris County Jail.

On December 6, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy D. James was dispatched to a possible DWI in the area of Spring Cypress and Tomball Parkway. The vehicle in question was described as a silver in color SUV and was being followed by a witness. The witness stated he observed the SUV swerve into on coming traffic several times. The vehicle also ran several red lights and drove off of the roadway. The witness followed the SUV to Spring Cypress and North Eldridge where the driver had stopped at a light, but failed to continue driving after the light had changed. The witness approached the vehicle and realized the driver was passed out. Deputy Oldner was the first to arrive at the scene. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Lauren Lofland of Tomball, was removed from the vehicle. Lofland exhibited several signs of intoxication and was arrested and charged with DWI (1st Offence). While conducting an inventory of her vehicle, a small amount of marijuana was found. An additional charge of Possession of Marijuana was also accepted. Lofland was later released on a total of $1,000.00 in bonds awaiting her next court appearance.

On December 7, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy M. Pate was dispatched to Mueschke Road and F.M. 2920 in regards to an unknown major accident. When he arrived at the scene he observed a vehicle sitting upside down in the ditch. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Sonya Garman of Magnolia, was being attended to by the Rosehill Fire Department paramedics. Garmon had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. After determining she was not injured she was released to Deputy Pate. Garmon was transported to the Cpresswood Substation where she was administered a breathalyzer test. The results were nearly three times over the legal limit. Sonya Garman was arrested and charged with DWI (1st Offence) and later released on a $500.00 bond awaiting her next court appearance.
