Sheriff Tommy Thomas Reports Recent Arrest in Northwest Harris County

On November 3, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy S. Orlando was dispatched to a possible DWI in the location of State Hwy. 290 and Barker Cypress. It was reported that a black Ford F1-50 was swerving all over the roadway. Deputy Orlando located the suspect vehicle in the 25000 block of State Hwy. 290 near Spring Cypress. The vehicle was traveling approximately 20 mph in a 65 mph zone and was swerving across all three lanes of traffic. Deputy Orlando initiated a traffic stop and as he approached the driver he could detect the strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. The driver identified as Martin Montenegro, 28-years-old of Cypress, admitted to consuming several beers while at a party. A standard field sobriety test was conducted in which he failed. Montenegro was arrested and charged with DWI (1st Offense). He later pled guilty and was sentenced to 15 days confinement in the Harris County Jail and a 1 year driver’s license suspension.

Also on November 3, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies O. Cisneros and V. Gamboa were dispatched to a suspicious person call in the 22230 block of F.M. 2920. It was reported the complainant received a call informing him that someone was living in his ranch house. The complainant was waiting for the deputies’ arrival before going onto the property. Deputy Cisneros and Gamboa searched the residence and found the suspect, Mary Love, 45-years-old of Hockley, asleep in one of the bedrooms. It was later discovered that she had been told on numerous occasions that she was not permitted on the property. Love was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass. She later pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 days confinement in the Harris County Jail.

On November 4, 2008, Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies M. Ivy and B. Herlong were at the Denny’s Restaurant located at 26050 Northwest Freeway. While inside the restaurant, an employee informed the deputies that two men had just left without paying their bill. Deputies Ivy and Herlong saw the two men in question walking very quickly to their vehicle. The deputies ran outside and saw the men get into a black Toyota car and when they attempted to stop them the two men the scene in their vehicle. A short pursuit ensued into the Cypress Mills Park Place II subdivision. The two suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, jumping fences. One suspect, identified as 20-year-old Matthew Courtney of Jersey Village, was apprehended. Courtney was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest and was later released on a $2,000.00 bond awaiting his next court appearance on November 21, 2008. The second suspect was identified and charges are pending.
