Make sure young children are accompanied by an adult; For older children establish a route and a scheduled time to be home
If there are no sidewalks, walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic

Stay in well-lit areas; Be careful when crossing the street Cross only at intersections
Stay in a group and communicate where you are going
Walk, never run across the street
Discuss with your children appropriate and inappropriate behavior while trick-or-treating
Costume Tips
Make sure costumes are fireproof and trip-proof
Wear clothing appropriate for the weather
Choose bright colors or add reflective tape to your costume
Make sure mask eye holes are large enough to see out of or consider wearing makeup instead of a mask
If your child is carrying a prop make sure it does not look authentic and that the tips are smooth and flexible so as to not cause injury
While Driving
Watch for children darting out from between parked cars and walking on the roadway
Drive slowly through residential areas
Enter and exit driveways carefully
Watch for children wearing dark clothing
Treats
Make sure an adult examines all treats before eating
Dont accept treats that are homemade
Inspect all treats for signs of tampering
An alternative to trick-or-treating is going to a community-sponsored event at worship centers, malls or organized parties. If going door to door is a tradition for you and your family, following these few tips will help ensure a fun, safe and happy Halloween!
